about

Saxophonist Lachlan McLean has announced the upcoming release of his independent album, ‘Here and Now’. With a wealth of experience releasing music, this album represents a new direction for him as a leader and showcases a maturity of composition and a willingness to push boundaries. The influences on the album are varied, but the music of Bill Frisell and Brad Mehldau come to mind.
Featuring James Bowers on Piano, Felix Bloxsom on drums, and Sam Anning on Bass, this collaboration is a fusion of exceptional musicianship and mature composition, exploring vivid and immersive musical landscapes. McLean's saxophone weaves in and out of the music, creating a rich tapestry of sound that is both complex and inviting.
The album title ‘Here and Now’ reflects the struggles of remaining present, particularly during the unprecedented lockdowns in Melbourne, when the compositions were born. Somehow, this can be felt in the music with track titles ‘View from A Lighthouse’ and ‘A human Truth’ conveying the struggles of this unprecedented time. The album also includes a rendition of Bowie's ‘the man who sold the world’ that feels right at home within the themes of the album.
With this release, McLean showcases his versatility and depth as a composer and bandleader, offering listeners an engaging and introspective journey through his unique musical perspective.
